Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much notice do I need to give for an appointment?

We try to make sure that we are available for when you need us most.

We can usually be available with 24 hours notice of when you feel it’s time to say goodbye.

For same day booking requests please call us, and we will let you know what we can arrange.

  • What is the best way to contact you?

The best and easiest way to arrange an appointment with us is using the booking form on this website. That means we will have all of the information we need straight away to arrange your visit.

If you would rather ask some questions or talk things through, you can call us or WhatsApp us on 07375 223 912, submit a contact form on our homepage, e-mail us at peacefulpawsscotland@gmail.com or send us a private message on Facebook or Instagram.

  • What areas do you cover?

We are based in Kirkintilloch cover most of Central Scotland and have split up our coverage area into three distinct zones based on postcode district. This means that you will know exactly what the cost of your visit will be, before you book us.

If you live out with our catchment area, we may still be able to help. Drop us a message and we will see what we can do.

  • How much does your service cost?

Our prices are given up front on our website, and are based on the species and size of your pet, and then what postcode district that you live in.

Our Zone and Price structure means you will know exactly how much our service costs, before you book.

  • How do I pay for your services?

At the time of booking, we will send you an invoice and a pre-read information guide about the visit.

Some people prefer to pay in advance so they don’t have to think about it afterwards, but no payment is due until after our service has been delivered.

We’ve made it as easy as possible to make payment, and the quickest way is to follow the link on the invoice e-mail and pay securely online. We also accept bank transfers, and in-person cash and credit card payment.

  • What options do I have afterwards?

After our visit you have the option of either burying your pet at home, or arranging a cremation for them.

Cremations can be arranged either through your own vet, or with a private veterinary crematorium.

We work closely with select veterinary crematoriums, and are happy to pass your details on to them at your request to book their services as well.

  • Will a crematorium come to collect my pet after the visit?

The private veterinary crematoriums that we recommend are happy to visit your home after our visit and collect your pet.

With enough notice, they can be booked to follow immediately after us and take your pet to the crematorium after you have said goodbye.

Even if they cannot come the same evening, the crematorium can usually come the following morning.

  • Can you take my pet away afterwards?

Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities to take your pet away with us after a visit.

With notice, we can help to arrange a private veterinary crematorium to collect your pet immediately after our visit, or the following morning.

  • Do you sedate pets before you put them to sleep?

We sedate all of the pets we see prior to putting them to sleep. This means that they will be fast asleep and completely at peace whilst you say goodbye.

The injection itself is just like any other injection or vaccination under the skin, but will help your pet drift into a deep sleep.

Sometimes cats can feel a bit sick immediately after the injection, but the nauseous feeling passes quickly.

  • Can I hold my pet whilst they are put to sleep?

    Of course.

Once your pet has fallen asleep from the sedation injection, we place an intravenous catheter in one of their legs.

Once that is in place it means we can easily and smoothly give the final injection without any further needles, and with you holding your pet if you wish.

  • Will my pet be aware of what's going on?

Once they have had their injection of sedation, your pet will fall into a deep sleep and relax.

Whilst they fall asleep we leave you with your pet to have those final moments in private and say goodbye however you want to.

At that point they will no longer be aware of what’s going on around them, and will be able to peacefully pass away when we give the final injection.

  • How long does the whole procedure take?

Every pet is slightly different, and we never rush the process. The time you have to say goodbye is precious, and we want you to be able to use it as you wish.

The sedation injection can take between 5 and 20 minutes to work.

The final injection is very quick and completely painless. At the point where you are ready to say your final goodbye, that injection works in seconds as your pet peacefully passes away.
